This week I found out that an HHR SS is a thing that exists. A coworker at my new place drives a bright red one. While it definitely looks more than a bit boy racery it’s not bad.

so this is an HHR? My first thought looking at the shape was '90s Chrysler minivan, but I guess it is all a little too low for that..

Yeah, those are Cobalt SS wheels. The HHR was built on the same platform, and they did make an SS version of it. They were quite fast little crap- boxes.
